Training Aims
Training at ‘Raw Instinct’ is taught by a qualified Dog Behavioural Psychologist.
Training involves working with a dog’s natural instinct.
Dogs are allowed to work out what is required of them through positive reinforcement. No harsh punishment or physical force just an assertive tone, ignoring and redirecting unwanted behaviour. This reward based system reinforces appropriate behaviour. The result is a calm and relaxed dog.
Positive reinforcement training encourages a dog to work more for their owner to produce desired behaviour.
The use of a treat as a bribe encourages a dog to only behave correctly if it knows it will get a treat and therefore is more likely to misbehave if no treat is given. Positive reinforcement training aims to prevent this behaviour. Treats should be 'Guides' not 'Bribes'.
We want owner and dog to be a team, building a bond between themselves where the dog looks to their owner for guidance. Owners learn how to read their own dog’s body language and react accordingly.
A dog of any age will benefit from socialising and training; puppies can attend classes as soon as they are fully vaccinated.
Training classes are tailored to meet the needs of all dogs attending, allowing them to work at their own pace and for owners to discover what motivates their canine companion.
We can also offer one-one private sessions for owners wishing to work individually with their dog on behaviour such as lead work and recall etc.
A detailed Behavioural Assessment can be offered for a dog with more serious issues such as nervousness, anxiety or aggression etc. This can be carried out in the comfort of an owner’s home. The assessment takes between 2-3 hours and addresses all of the owners concerns, restructuring the ‘pack’ and putting new techniques into place. After which an ‘Individual Action Plan’ is written to support the session. Follow ups by telephone or email are carried out to monitor progress and adapt training techniques accordingly.
